Mrs. Eaton's Biography

by Sheri Eaton

January 02, 2008

Welcome to Mrs. Eaton's home-page.  I have taught at Emerson-Hubbard for many years and have taught a variety of subjects and grade levels. I still remember the thrill of getting a phone call from Mrs. Shirley Graverholt offering me the 2nd grade position at Emerson-Hubbard Elementary.

Having  always lived in a small town in Nebraska, I don't think I would ever want to live in a different state.   I grew up in Randolph, went to college at Wayne State, and have taught at Emerson-Hubbard in Emerson, Nebraska.

Even though I have only taught at Emerson-Hubbard, each year has brought changes.  When I first began teaching at Emerson-Hubbard, I taught 2nd grade students for a teacher who was taking a sabbatical.  During the next few years, I taught in the special education department at the elementary before teaching elementary students through the federal Chapter I (Title I) program. Through Chapter I, I also taught students at Sacred Heart School.  Even though I enjoyed working with small groups, after a few more years, I requested to teach 5th grade when the position opened.  The 5th and 6th grade classes became departmentalized, and I was lucky to be able to teach math, my favorite subject, to both 5th and 6th grade students and 5th grade language arts.  When a junior high math teacher could not be found, I was asked to teach math to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students.  At this time I taught 5th and 6th grade math at the elementary and 7th grade math, pre-algebra, and intro to algebra at the high school.  Soon I began teaching full time at the junior high (7th grade English, 7th and 8th grade reading, and Pre-Algebra).  In 2007 - 2008 I am back to teaching part-time at the junior high (7th grade English, reading, and math) and part-time at the elementary (6th grade math and science).   As I stated earlier, each year at Emerson-Hubbard has brought changes and learning opportunities.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the students at Emerson-Hubbard and the cooperation from the parents.  Both have made me glad I chose teaching as a career.
