Classroom Citizen of the Week

Each week a first grade student has the opportunity to be the "Citizen of the Week". They prepare a poster about themselves at home. On Monday of their week they present the poster to the class. Their presentation is video taped. When they've finished their presentation the class has a chance to ask questions of the citizen. Then everyone writes about the poster presentation. The writing is placed in each individual's three-ringed binder.
Wednesday of the week the "Citizen" brings items for a guessing jar. The "Citizen" shows each classmate the jar and has them record their guess. At the end of this activity the "Citizen" tells the class how many items he/she brought and has the classmates make a graph of their guesses.
Friday is the day for the "Citizen's" show and tell. The show and tell is also video taped. The "Citizen's" classmates have an opportunity to ask questions of the "Citizen".
The "Citizen" may also be the second person in our line during their week. The "Citizens" really enjoy their week in the spotlight. The video tape of the "Citizen's" poster and show and tell presentations will be available for taking home.
