Hello, Welcome to my world. My name is Maria Weddel and I am the resource teacher at Emerson-Hubbard High School. I come from Emerson after teaching in Kearney, Nebraska for 28 years working with children with a range of disabilities from Severe Profound to Behavior Disordered. I have always taught in the middle school and secondary areas. I moved to Emerson after my husband changed careers and this is my seventh year at Emerson-Hubbard High School where once again, I am serving as resource teacher.
When I am not in school my world revolves around my family. I come from an Italian heritage and my mama is still living in Lexington, NE at the age of 88, she is still lively and the matriarch of our family. I am a proud mother of three children. Two daughters and one son. All are in college and all are exceptionally good kids. I am not prejudice, just stating the obvious. I also am the proud grand mother of two grandchildren and they are a wonderful example as to why we should enjoy life. What a treat!!
I also am a proud foster parent to over 20 children in the past years. Many of my foster children are grown and have children of their own (extended grandchildren). I am a strong supporter of the foster parent program and extended families.
My husband and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and we are still the very best of friends. I cannot think of anyone that I would rather spend my life with.
As far as hobbies, I love reading, playing and listening to music and cooking. I'm very proud of my Italian heritage and love cooking traditional Italian foods. My goal is to someday have an Italian pastry shop or Bed and Breakfast where I can serve good cuisine to friends and family. Nothing is better than making friends and memories around the kitchen table. I also love young people and enjoy having my children and their friends over for an evening. I believe that you stay young by surrounding yourself with young people.
