Band Students Attend Lewis and Clark Conference Honor Band

by Dale Lussier

January 22, 2008

Several students from the Emerson-Hubbard High School band had a very exciting weekend at Wayne State College where they got the chance to play in the Lewis and Clark Conference Honor Band. This is an all day program where the students audition for chair placement in the band. They spend nearly six hours perfecting the music they are playing, before they perform in front of a large crowd. In addition, the school from each conference who has the most people in the audience from their home town gets an award.

"It was pretty hard," reports one of the students who was in attendance, "practicing for six hours straight really makes you tired, but it is still fun in the end. The worst part was when the director was just focusing on one section of the band and everyone else just had to stand their and wait for them to get done so that we could all play again."

Several of the students from Emerson-Hubbard did excellent in their audition material and were awarded first and second chair placements.

On another note, the entire band has been practicing feverishly to play pep band at some of the remaining home games for boys and girls basketball. It is recommended that everyone come out to support our team and hear some of the great music, under the direction of Mrs. Trenhaile.

Next week we will have developments on:
