Junior High Band Day

by Dale Lussier

March 02, 2008

Today is Junior High band day at Wayne State College. At eight o'clock this morning, the Junior High boarded a bus that took them to Wayne State College for the annual band day, where they will compete in many different events.

One of these events will be playing the concert music that they have been practicing. The two pieces of music are entitled Apollo Fanfare and Milky Way March. The music will be played before several judges and ranked according to the sound and balance of the band. They will be ranked on a 1 to 4 scale with 1 being the best.

Another event will be solos and ensembles, where the students will compete either in a small group or individually. They will play a song for a judge and be assessed on the same 1 to 4 scale that is used for the band. After the song is complete, the judge will show the students how they can improve and will also talk about any spots where they had trouble in the music.

In addition, the Junior High Choir will also be attending this event. They will compete in the same way as the band, but all of their activities will take place later in the day.
