Athletics!
Football
The football team had thirty-three young players in its ranks. The Seniors led them to a 3-9 record. The Pirates opened the season with a tough loss to Madison in the final minutes of the game 14 to 15. They took a stomping to Ponca 26-7 in the following week. They went on a three game winning streak beating West Point C.C. 31 to 14, Laurel 13-6, and finally Homer in a 14 to 0 shut out for Homecoming. The first overtime in E-H school history ended with a loss to Scribner. Wayne shut out the Pirates 24 to 0. The final two games of the season were close as well as they lost to Wisner-Pilger 6 to 12 and Wakefield 6 to 14.

Eight Pirates were named to the All Conference team in the '82 season. They were Duane Krusemark, Bryan Daum, Glen Paulsen, and Dean Fuchser. Honorable mention went to Roger Hansen, Pat Henderson, Dan Belt, and Steve Larson.
Volleyball
The Lady Pirates went 7 for 13 on the season with 23 girls out. They opened their season with a three game winning streak, with victories over Newcastle, Wakefield, and Pender. They lost to Pender in 2 sets, but bounced back with a win over Ponca. They lost four games in a row to South Sioux, Hartington C.C,, Homer, and Wisner-Pilger. They beat Bancroft and Laurel to end the regular season. They beat Homer in the first round of Districts but lost to Wakefield in three sets to end their great season.
The Lady Pirates team consisted of Laurie Stolze, Susan Boeshart, Cara Larkowski, Jean Coan, Stacey Strong, Jenny Hartnett, Kim Strong, Patty Gentrup, Barb Irby, Kathy Steinman, Tammi Millard, Kim Nelson, Linda Belt, Nancy Pallas, Vicky Tullberg, Julie Hassler, Mary Walsh, Linda Henderson, Tania Broveak, Pam Watkins, Syndi Paulsen, Amy Hartnett, and Jodi Prokop. The coaches were Mr. Eaton and Mrs. Dahlkotter.
Three Lady Pirates were named to the all Conference Volleyball team. They were Linda Henderson, Pam Watkins, and Tania Broveak.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Pirates Basketball Team went 8 for 11. They also won the Post Holiday Tournament at Pender and they got second at the Lewis and Clark Tournament at Ponca. They opened the season with a loss to Wisner-Pilger by one point, but came back with a win over Homer 42-23. They went on a winning streak with wins over Wakefield, Coleridge, Bancroft, and Ponca. Hartington CC snapped the steak with a 6 point victory over the Lady Pirates. They beat Newcastle 51-25 but lost to Walthill 24 to 29. They ended the season with wins over Allen and Wayne.
The team consisted of 12 girls. A. Hartnett, L. Hinderson, P. Watkins, V. Tullberg, K. Jensen, K. Nelson, M. Assmussen, M. Walsh, T. Broveak, l. Belt, C. Huggenberger, and J. Hartnett.
Three girls made All Conference, Linda Henderson, Pam Watkins, and Mary Walsh. Amy Hartnett recieved Honorable Mention while Henderson also recieved All-State Honorable Mention.
Boys Basketball
The Boys went 10 for 14 on the season. They opened the season on a four game winning streak with OT wins over West Point and Homer, and wins over Ponca and Bancroft. They placed third in the Post Holiday Tournament. They lost by 9 to Hartington CC, but bounced back with a win over Wakefield 49-40. They lost to newcastle, but beat Allen 77-49 and Laurel 53-44. They lost to Walthill 57-77, but came back with a 16 point victory over Pender. They beat Lyons to end the Regular season. They opened up District play with a 81-49 victory against Allen, but lost in the second round to Ponca.
The team consisted of 23 boys. They were R. Huggenberger, C. Perkins, B. Daum, M. Henderson, P. Walsh, A. Belt, S. Larson, B. Utemark, J. Utemark, J. Mackling, B. Paulsen, D. Fuscher, P. Henderson, D. Belt, G. Paulsen, D. Krusemark, K. Gradert, B. Sebade, R. Wendte, F. Wood, R. Paulsen, R. Demke, W. Kosinski, and B. Perkins. Coaches included Coach Wiseman, Coach Schiewsow, Coach Hansen. Student Mangers are B. Shanks and C. Huntley.
Four Pirates were named to the Lewis and Clark All-Conference Teams. Bryan Daum was named to the first team while Pat Henderson, Dan Belt, and Glen Paulsen made Honorable Mention.
Track
Boys
The boys track team had 12 members in it with two making it to state. They finished tied for seventh in the Lewis and Clark Conference. They placed eighth at the District meet. Glen Paulsen and Dean Fuscher qualified for the state meet. Paulsen in the 1600 with a time of 4:47:4 and Fuscher in the triple jump with a jump of 40'2 and 1/2".
The team included R. Utemark, C. Perkins, P. Henderson, R. Paulsen, D. fuscher, C. McKeever, G. Bottger, M. Henderson, B. Paulsen, R. Wendte, g. Paulsen, and W. Kosinski. Coaches were Coach Schwiesow and Coach Hawkins.
Girls
The girls track team included 16 girls. Four girls made it to state. Jennifer Hartnett for the 1600 with a time of 5:44.4 and the 800. The 400 meter relay also qualified which included Angie Hasler, Stacey Strong, Jenny Hartnett, and Carla Hassler. The team adopted a motto for the '82 season. It was "The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running."

The golf team consisted of five members, A. Belt, J. Mackling, B. Daum, D. Belt, and F. Wood. Mr. weber was the Coach. They had meets at Beemer, Oakland-Craig, Hartington, Wausa, Wakefield, Stanton, and Districts being held at O'Neil.

FBLA did many activities for the '82 school year. They held a breakfast with honor society, sold the school newspapers, attended conventions were they competed with 1,204 other students across the state. Many students did well at the event, some even got Honorable Mention.

"Come Sail Away" was the theme. It was an Island atmosphere represented by grass huts, palm trees, and pineapples. The Music boosters served fresh fruit, ham, roast beef, and vegetables. After dinner entertainment consisted of a skit, gag awards, and a dance (music provided by Avatar).
