In the class of 1990 there were 24 graduating seniors. They were Brian Mellick, Kelly Shanks, Shelly Mackling, Brian Oetken, Russell Messerschmidt, Heather Collins, Tracie Martin, Mark Lueth, Mike Stark, Nadline Roeber, Duane Berg, Kimmy Sebade, Debbie VonAswege, pat Cadwallader, Todd Belt, Tina Mellick, Jeff Bousquet, Ken Pederson, Jim Conway, Paul Broveak, Becky Deitlof, Janet Clark, Russell Bokemper, and Klaus Wierig.

Activities

Jazz Band

There were 18 students in Emerson-Hubbards Jazz Bad in 1990. They were Dee Wallwey, Chris Boeshart, becky Wrage, Heather Collins, Gidget Olson, Dena Lamp, Marti Miller, Paul Broveak, Klaus Wierig, Brian Oetken, Mark Lueth, Danelle Novak, Jon Wallwey, Brenda Langmack, Ken Pedersen, Scott Anderson, Marcy Schwarten, and Chad Luschen. 

 

Marching Band

1990 was a good year for marching bad. The Emerson-Hubbard marching band had 41 members, and had a busy year. They participated in 4 parades: Allen Homecoming parade, WSC Band Day, La Vitsef, and our own homecoming. The 41 members of the marching band were, Heather Dohrman, Matri Miller, Brenda Langmack, Jenny Bressler, Chad Luschen, Chad Strong, Kyle Utemark, Penny Gilster, Cathi Oetken, Nadine Roeber, Becky Deitloff, Chris Boeshart, Keri Kellogg, Angia Modlin, Sara McCabe, Ginny Wrage, Jeni Howard, Becky Wrage, Ronda Brinkman, Debra Doupnik, Kelly Deitloff, Dee Wallwey, Dena Lamp, Kraig Kubic, Heather Collins, Gidget Olson, Jamie Modlin, Amy McTaggart, Marcy Schwarten, Steve Miller, Chad Anderson, Ken Pederson, Scott Anderson, Paul Broveak, Scott Hassler Ryan Albrecht, Danelle Novak, Jim Wallwey, Mark Lueth, Brian Oetken, and Klaus Wierig.  Klaus Wierig was selected to the All-State Orchestra where he sat first chiar tuba. Chris Boeshart was all so selectd as an alternate Baritone Saxopohone for All-State Band.

 

Concert Band

In 1990 there were 43 Emerson-Hubbard students out for Concert Band. The students involved were Cathi Oetken, Brenda Langmack, Deb Doupnik, Ronda Brinkman, Ginny Wrage, Jeni Howard, Penny Gilster, Jamie Modlin, Nadine Roeber, Becky Deitloff, Chris Boeshart, Gidget Olson, Dee Wallwey, Dena Lamp, Kelly Deitlofff, Kraig Kubik, Becky Wrage, Heather Collins, Chad Strong, Cher Dinges, keri Kellogg, Chad Luschen, Angie Modlin, bary Hadrock, Sara McCabe, Marti Miller, Chad Anderson, Jenny Bressler, Steve Miller, Kyle Utemark, Heather Dohrman SCott Anderson, Marcy Schwarten, Ken Pederson, Paul Broveak, Klaus Wierig, Amy McTaggert, Scott Hassler, Ryan ALbrecht, Jon Wallwey Danelle Novak, Mark Lueth, Brian Oetken.

FFA

There were 18 students in the Emerson-Hubbard chapter in 1990. The students involved were Tina Mellick, Pat Cadwallader, Brian Mellick, Alexa Notto, Hason Martineck, Brad Brinkman, Tim Sebade, Brian Emmons, Kimmy Sebade, Kirby Lamp, Jim Conway, Marcy Schwarten, Chris Boeshart, Brenda Langmack , Kyle Ahlers, Dan Gentrup, Shane Koch. These students were led by Emerson-Hubbard FFA chapter leader, Mr.Burnell Drieling. The FFA chapter had a busy year in 1990. Members raised baby pheasants to help the wildlife in the Dakota, Dixon, and Thurston counties. They all so ran in to a bit of a problem in their annual pancake feed. The company had incorrectly mixed the pancake batter, so the FFA members had to make a new mixture. The 1990 FFA chapter all so had auctioned off all of the FFA members for a fund raiser. The team took a trip to Kansas City to attend the national FFA convention on November 8th through the 10th. They held a Children's Barnyard for the Emerson-Hubbard elementary kids, and it appeared to go over great.

Awards were given out to FFA members that had proven they deserved them. Brian Mellick was given the blue and gold award for his ability and dedication to the FFA organizations. Tina Mellick received The Dekalb Award; this award was given to her for her leadership and scholarship dedication.

Cheerleaders

In 1990 there were 7 girls involved in cheerleading. They were Marti Miller, Brenda Langmack, Ronda Brinkman, Gidget Olson, Becky Wrange, Amy McTaggart, and Sara McCabe.

French Club

There were 13 people involved in French CLub in 90'. Students involved were Dee Wallwey, Kelly Deitloff, Heather Dohrman, Shawna Carr,  Gidget Olson, Dena Lamp, penny Gilster, Kimmy Sebade, Becky Deitloff, Heather Collins, Danelle Novak, Cheryl Dinges, and Tracy Parker.

Student Council

15 students were involved in Student Council. The members involved were Ryan Albrecht, Heather Wheelen, Jon Mackling, Chad Anderson, Noel Hassler, Jenny Bressler, Ben Schwarten, kyle Ahlers, Carla Paulsen, Ronda Brinkman, Duane Berg, Brian Oetken, Tracy Martin, Cathi Oetken, and Bryan Belt. 

FHA

The FHA did their annual fundraiser at Godfather's, by making pizza's to pay their way to state. They visited the nursing home, made packages to send overseas, and they competed in local/state competitions. They were sponsored by Miss Linda Davenport and Mrs. Carol Porter. Member's included Angie Modlin, Penny Gilster, Shawna Carr, Heather Dohrman, Chris Boeshart, Ginny Wrage, Sara McCabe, Dena Lamp, Jamie Modlin, Tonya Mellick, Becky Wrage, Amy McTaggart, Carla Paulsen, Danelle Novak, Tracy Parker, Jennifer Wheelen, Becky Deitloff, Rosalyn Krahmer, Keri Kellogg, Cathi Oetken, Brenda Langmack, Ronda Brinkman, Jenny Bressler, Marti Miller, Heather Wheelen, Nicole Anderson, Heidi Hassler, Jeff Benck, Mandy Fuchser, Jennifer Krueger, Debra Doupnik, Gidget Olson, Cheryl Dinges, Tiffany Belt, Toorey Rager, Stacey Mueller, Collen VonSeggern.

FBLA

There were 13 members. President - Brian Oetken, Vice President - Chad Strong, Secretary - Deb VonAswege, Treasurer - Gidget Olson, Parliamentarian - Marcy Schwarten, Historian - Todd Belt, News Reporter - Ken Pederson, Other Members - Becky Deitloff, Angie Modlin, Kyle Ahlers, Brenda Langmack, Heather Collins, and Sara McCabe. The sponsor was Mrs. Janelle Simonsen. 

Annual

The annual staff consisted of Brian Oetken, Jim Conway, Debbie VonAswege, Brian Mellick, Todd Belt, Mark Lueth, Ken Pedersen, Tina Mellick, Marcy Schwarten, Steve Miller, and Chad Luschen. Mr. Larry Thieman was the sponsor. 

Homecoming

The Sophomore class received awards for the Best Wall and Best Float. The award for Best Skit went to the Booster Club. King and Queen were Brian Oetken and Heather Collins, Prince and Princess were Russ Bokemper and Tracie Martin, and Duke and Dutchess were Todd Belt and Kimmy Sebade.

Sweetheart

The Nominees for Queen were Debbie VonAswege, Nadine Roeber, Kimmy Sebade, and Tina Mellick. The Nominees for King were Brian Mellick and Pat Cadwallader. The King and Queen were Brian Mellick and Tina Mellick. The Prince and Princess were Pat Cadwallader and Kimmy Sebade. 

Prom

The Theme for the 1990 prom was "Paradise City", and the colors were black, white, and silver.  The night started off with a banquet at 7 o'clock and the welcome by Chris Boeshart, response by Brian Oetken and the invocation by Mr. Wood.  The D.J. for the night was Rock 98 from Sioux City, IA.  The dance started at 9 o'clock and the grand march was at 10 o'clock.

Football

In The 1990 football team of Emerson-Hubbard made the state playoffs with a record of 5-3.  In the first round of the playoffs the pirates played Bloomfield and lost with a score of 20 to 6, with that loss of course ended the pirate football season.  

Volleyball

Only 19 girls began the preseason for what turned out to be a very competitive season for the lady pirates.  There were 7 victories within 10 games, the first two came as the lady pirates totally dominated Pender and Newcastle.  A runner-up trophy was added to the girls accomplishments in the Newcastle tournament.  The subdistrict play was an exciting match in a very narrow loss to the top seed Wakefield.

Girls Basketball

The 1990 Emerson-Hubbard lady basketball team was very successful in the regular season they went 17-1, which moved them to the Subdistricts where they beat Wakefield and Laurel.  then they moved on to Districts with all the momentum and with a 42-32 devistating loss to Crofton ended their season. 

Boys Basketball

The 1990 Emerson-Hubbard boys basketball team wern't as successful as the lady pirate basketball team but they boys went 7-9 in the regular season then moved on to the Subdistricts where they lost to the Wakefield Trojans with a score of 76-40.  That ended their abruptly.

Track

The Emerson-Hubbard track team took 4th place at the Wayne State Indoor Meet, 6th place in the Ivan Krumweide Relays, 5th place in the Cougar Invite, 3rd place in the Knight Invite, 8th in the Wisner-Pilger Invite, Conference meet they took 6th place, and Districts they took 5th place.
