Hello! My name is James Northwick, and I am your elementary principal.
I am originally from Iowa and have lived there my whole life. Please don’t hold that against me. I grew up in Ankeny, IA. I was the middle child with an older brother and a younger sister. We all graduated from Ankeny High School and went on to college. My father works for the Iowa Department of Revenue and my mother is currently a quilter.
The University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA, was my home for
college. I majored in elementary education. When I finished with
college, I worked in Des Moines, IA, for a year as a specialist in
a homeless shelter for young adults ages 16-21. After a year of
working there I found a teaching job in Mason City, IA. I worked as
a teacher at Newman Catholic Schools in Mason City for 4 years.
While teaching I coached, became athletic director, and worked on
my master’s degree from Iowa State University. I was very excited
when I heard I was to become your elementary principal at
Emerson-Hubbard.
My wife, Kelly works as a Para in Wakefield. We are happy owners of
two great dogs:Vivian, a golden retriever, and Finnegan, a Great
Dane. Both are young enough to keep us on our toes all the
time.
I am a big football fan. I enjoy watching sports and cheering on
the Minnesota Gophers. Spending time with family is very important
to my wife and me so we will be on the road a bit this year. We
also like to camp, walk the dogs, and play games. This will be an
exciting year, and I look forward to working in Emerson-Hubbard
Elementary.
