Another slow first half from the Pirates was too much to overcome as they dropped their 2nd game of the year to the Osmond Tigers on Friday, 35-21.
Osmond came out fast, building a 14-0 lead late in the 2nd quarter. Emerson was able to cut the lead in half just before halftime on a 54 yard touchdown pass from Max Renning to Scott Servine.
The Pirates started the 2nd half with a defensive stand and a touchdown on a 8 yard run by fullback Michael Hassler. The teams played the rest of the 3rd quarter even.
The fourth quarter was dominated by Osmond. Emerson threatened to score early, but a stand deep in their own territory by the Tigers swung the momentum, and they went on a 21-0 run in a 4 minute span.
Emerson would score one more time on a 65 yard run by Hassler, which accounted for most of his 93 yards on the night. Osmond then ran out the clock to pick up a 35-21 win and become the early favorite to win the district. Emerson is now 0-1 in district play and 2-2 overall.
On defense, the Pirates were lead by senior safety Justin Hogan who had 17 total tackles on the night. Nose guard Trent Stork was second with 11.
Scott Servine was leading receiver and rusher on the night, with 63 yards through the air and 97 on the ground.
Max Renning was 4 for 9 passing on the night for 69 yards.
The Pirates stay on the road this week as they travel to Winside to take on the 2-2 Wildcats at 7 pm. They will need a win to keep their district title hopes alive and improve their playoff chances.
