Tough Loss to Laurel

The Emerson-Hubbard Pirates drew the Laurel Concord Bears in the opening round of the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout. They suffered their second loss of the season in a 55-44 contest. Going into the second half the Pirates were up 19-18 after the Bears sunk a half court buzzer beater. The Bears went on to score 37 points in the second half to beat the Pirates and send them into the consolation bracket.
A.J. Bormann was the leading scorer with 16 points followed by Scott Servine with 9. Austin Gutzmann (8 points), Derick lux (8 points), and Justin Hogan (3 points) rounded out the Pirate scoring.
Starting post player A.J. Bormann had this to say on the game, "We didn't play too good of defense that game," while point guard Scott Servine said,"The effort was there, but we didn't play up to our ability."
The Pirates will face Wakefield in the Semifinals.
