Semifinals of the L & C tourney vs Wynot

by Caitlin Casey

February 08, 2010

The Lady Pirates took on the number 1 seed, Wynot, in the semifinals of the Lewis and Clark Conference tournament. They came out strong in the first half, breaking the press easily. At halftime they went into the locker room only down by 5. Unfortunately the second half everyone had trouble knocking down shots and Wynot went on an 8-0 run to stretch their lead. The Pirates couldn't recover, and were bounced from the tournament, losing 44-27.

Brittni Bormann was the leading scorer with 10 points. Marisa Blanke tossed in 8 and Alexa Heeney and Caitlin Casey both had 4. Brittany Pallas had 3 assists and was the leading rebounder with 10. Heeney and Casey both pulled down 6 rebounds each, and Marisa Blanke had 5 steals.

"Free throws hurt us in this game. If we would of shot better it would of been a lot closer game," says senior Alexa Heeney.

The Lady Pirates next game is Friday, February 12, in Walthill, and then the next morning is the 9/10 tourney. Then the ladies travel to Wakefield for a make-up game and start sub-districts next Tuesday. Good luck ladies!!
