One truly never knows what can happen to start a season, but the Wolfpack of Tri County Northeast probably exceeded coaching expectations.
In the girl’s race, sophomore Alejandra Hermosillo ran a near personal best to capture a 7th place medallion in the 90-girl field. Hermosillo was clocked at 23:57.47. Junior, Bre Millard, sprinted the final 150 meters to capture the final medal at 15th place clocking a time of 25:36.59.
The other two Wolfpack girls, Jenni Olson ran 28:52.41 to capture 33rd, and Shantel Miller ran 30:00.89 for 41st place.
The four Wolfpack runners’ efforts placed them 5th as a team on the day.
Three new Wolfpack boy runners ran following the girls’ event.
Sophomore Alex Snyder made a spirited run late to capture one of the fifteen medals but came up just short. Snyder finished 18th with a time of 20:44.93.
Junior, Devon Lewellen was clocked in a time of 23:18.76, good for 50th place in the 90-boy field. Sophomore Sean Lawrence finished 78th in a time of 30:05.32.
The boys could not be ranked for team standings, as it required four runners.
Next action for the Wolfpack will be Thursday, August 31st at the Wisner-Pilger Invite. That meet will be held at the Beemer Golf Course, starting at 5:30.
COACHES COMMENTS:
“The teams did a very nice job today. We believe that this effort was a little more than we expected from them, and that is very pleasing to exceed expectations. Now that they have had a chance to compete, they must work on maintaining and improving upon the initial baseline efforts. Both coaches are extremely happy with the team performances today. Good job teams!”
