ACT test info

The Nebraska Department of Education has chosen the ACT to replace the NeSa (Nebraska State Accountability Assessment) for all Juniors.  Each 11th grader in the state will be taking the ACT test this spring.  Emerson-Hubbard has elected to administer the traditional paper/pencil test to the class.  By having all Juniors take the test, Nebraska hopes to promote a college going culture and open opportunities for our students that had previously not considered college as a post-high school option.

The ACT is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Please mark your calendars to ensure all Juniors are in school on this date.

Some common questions regarding the ACT test:

Q: Will the student have to pay for the test?
A: No, this test will be provided free of charge

Q: Will this score be a valid score to send to colleges?
A: Yes, the scores will be treated the same as a National test date.

Q: Does my student need to register online?
A: No, the state will upload the student information to ACT from PowerSchool. Students will have the opportunity to send their scores to various colleges.

Q: When will the students test?
A: Tuesday, March 26, 2024.  The ACT requires that the test starts on time so parents need to ensure that their son/daughter arrives at school on time.  The test will begin promptly at 8:30AM and conclude approximately at 12:30PM.  We are serving breakfast at 7:30AM!!

Q: Where will the ACT test take place?
A: The students will test at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE.

Q: Are there differences between the ACT test and the NeSA?
A: Yes. The NeSA is an untimed, criterion referenced test in comparison the ACT is a strictly timed, norm referenced test.  The NeSA could be given over several days but the ACT will be given in one setting on March 26th.  The students will be taking tests in English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning, and Writing.

Q: My child has an IEP, will they be able to use accommodations on the test?
A: Yes, if accommodations are allowed in the student’s IEP, those requests can be submitted for ACT approval.

We ask that your student reports to school at 7:30AM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Breakfast will be served at that time.  We will bus the students to the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson.  Snacks will be provided during the break.  The test will be completed at approximately 12:30. When students are done with the ACT test, they will eat pizza with their class and be dismissed from school for the remainder of the school day.

Please encourage your student to be rested and prepared to take the ACT!
