The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack track squads had highly successful days at the Hartington-Newcastle Invite on Tuesday, April 8th. Although windy, some very good performances were turned in by the teams.
Leading the girls’ team was junior Kiya Tornez. Tornez won three golds on the day along with one silver. Tornez scored the field in the 100, running 12.79. She then followed up with a leap of 16’2” in the long jump, anchored the victorious 4X100 relay, and added a second-place finish in the 200.
Teammates, Bre Millard and Joslyn Mackling had a good day on the apron and track as she collected a gold medal in the 300 hurdles and a leg in the 4X100 relay. Millard also placed fourth in the 200 and 5th in the 400. Mackling collected a gold in the high jump, running a leg of the 4X100 relay, a fourth-place finish in the 100 hurdles and she ran a leg on the fifth place 4X400 relay.
The boys had another productive day from several members, but Bryan Isom continues to lead the group. Isom collected two first place finishes both in the 110 hurdles at 16.11 and 300 hurdles in 43.21. Isom also finished fourth in the triple jump going 40’7 ½” and he ran a leg on the boys 4X100 relay which finished fourth.
Thatcher Lamp continued to compete well as Lamp collected three medals on the day. Lamp finished second in the 300 hurdles, sixth in the 110 hurdles and ran a leg on the 4X400 relay.
The teams will compete next on April 15th at the Trojan Invite in Hartington and the Homer Invite on April 17th.
COACHES COMMENTS:
“The teams continue to improve and compete at a higher level each time they have stepped on the runway, ring and track. We have done some nice things so far, and the expectations should continue to climb. The girls’ team had an outstanding day as they flirted with a runner-up finish but exceeded expectations. The boys fourth place finish was also very pleasing to see. It’s back at work next week. It will be a challenging and competitive week, but the squads will be ready. Great Job Teams!”
